Elder Decision and a Beautiful Story

Dear Friends,

First, I want to thank each of you for joining me in prayer as I considered joining the Elder Board. This was not a decision I took lightly and asked each of you to join me in prayer.

I won’t hold you in suspense, but the Lord has led me to decline the invitation to join the Elder Board but not before He crafted a beautiful story.

Enter Beautiful Story

For a month, we had been lifting the request up to God, and it was silent, like eerily silent. I spoke with one pastor on Sunday night and via email with another on Monday evening and when I went to bed, that night it was still silent.

Last Tuesday morning everything changed. On the way to work, I was listening to a book when God began to flood my mind with ideas for leading and caring in a new way. Frankly, I was overwhelmed with the ideas.

I took time alone at lunch to write the ideas down on paper; however, these were not ideas for how to lead at ABF, they were ideas for how to lead in an Employee Resource Group at work.

God was impressing upon me a ministry opportunity to provide care and ministry to the people I work with and serve every day at work. The more I wrote, the more I got excited.

I shared my new ideas and struggle with my men’s e-group, close friends and family over the next couple of days and each confirmed that God was leading me down this other path.

Sitting on the edge of my bed and looking at a symbol wall I have, I studied each symbol, and the Lord continued to impress upon me that it was not silence when I didn’t hear anything, it was preparation.

Not silence, but preparation…not silence, but preparation.

On that Tuesday morning drive, the preparation was complete, and the heavens opened and rained down an incredible blessing and calling to change and influence people who are far from God.

What I learned and experienced was…God’s timing is always right on time. I love this quote from Ed Young – “God is preparing you for what He has prepared for you.”

We might not always see the preparation during the silent times, but God is at work, and I am living proof of that.

Thank you for being part of my beautiful story. God used each of you to prepare me for what is next, and I am so grateful.

Have a blessed Christmas season,

Dave Anthold
