Super Bowl Sunday is just two (short) days away, and while people are preparing for the big game, I will be packing the streets of Huntington Beach for my second half-marathon. I would love for you to follow my journey on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #DaveSCHM.
The Surf City Half-Marathon is the second major physical challenge in my Y39 Project. To be honest, I don't consider myself a finely tuned machine (yet), but this half-marathon presents several opportunities to live life in the margins.
I have made no secret that the Y39 Project is a work in progress and I don't have it all figured out…and I am so okay with it. As someone who strives for perfection (and misses every time), I am hopeful that the journey I am on will ultimately lead me to a better version of myself.
Create Memorable Moments
This race is not a solo effort. I will be with 20,000 of my closest friends all with one goal in mind…FINISH.

Here are three ways I plan to create memorable moments:
- Share the Adventure – I am not going to be setting any land speed records, so this allows me to share my experience with my followers. Instagram and Twitter will be full of pics and sayings from the road. You can follow the adventure with this hashtag #DaveSCHM
- Remember When – I can still remember what it felt like to toe the line at my first half-marathon, and I loved it. I don't want to ever lose those feelings. I want to live these moments with a child-like wonder and filled excitement.
- Great Conversations Give Birth to New Dreams – exercise and conversations can ultimately lead to key breakthroughs in thoughts and dreams. I plan to listen for the moments that will help define my future as well as help me get through the tough miles when I want to give up.
Life is One Big Race
The truth is…life is one big race. We live our lives according to our values and the dreams that are placed within our hearts. Some dreams come later in life while others have been with us since childhood. It is true that starting is the hard part, but I am also finding that shifting and adapting your dreams is equally as tough.
I hope your Super Bowl Sunday is a great day and you are able to spend it with family and friends. As for me, you know where I will be and you can follow me on Instagram and Twitter throughout the morning using hashtag #DaveSCHM.
