5 Takeaways to Have Your Best Year Ever

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] couple of weeks ago, I introduced you to Michael Hyatt's 5 Days to Your Best Year Ever video series and encouraged you to check out the free series.  I hope that you took advantage of the series, Michael packed in a lot of information.

For me, the key takeaway from the video series was understanding the why behind my goals.

In 2015, I want to accomplish some pretty tremendous goals and I needed some help, so I purchased the course.  I set aside five days to work on my goals for 2015.  It took me about 30 minutes to an hour to work through the exercises and I received some incredible insight.

Your Best Year is Ahead of You

Here are five takeaways to help you succeed with your goals:

  1. Identify my motivation behind each goal so when the going gets tough (and it will) I can remember why I wanted to accomplish the goal.
  1. If I am not uncomfortable with my goals, then I haven't thought big enough.
  1. Identify the one next step…not a full up plan, but what is the one step that will keep me moving forward for each goal.
  1. When I understand why my goals failed last year than I can address next year's goals.
  1. Write your goals down.  Just putting them on paper makes you 42% more likely to achieve them.

I have to admit that I struggled to keep the appointment with myself.  Some days I would do the exercises at lunch and other times it was over coffee in the morning; however, the biggest win was completing the exercises and having my goals for 2015 ready to go.

For me, I have my personal goals all set and now I will take this same goal setting philosophy as I approach my work goals.  I encourage you to set aside some time and really ask yourself what you want to accomplish in 2015.  Each of us is on the cusp of greatness.  Maybe you want to write a book.  Maybe you want to start a charity.  Maybe you want to lose weight and run that first half-marathon.

I want to encourage you to make 2015 different then 2014.  There is no reason that we cannot achieve our biggest goals this year!  If you are interested in Michael Hyatt's 5 Days to Your Best Year Ever course, you can check it out here.
