On my journey through Middle America, my uncle took us to one of the hot spots in Freeport. It was Union Dairy which is an old-fashioned soda fountain shop with a great ice cream parlor.
It's got a 50's style diner counter where you can pull up a stool and ask for your favorite shake or malt, get that ice cream cone you've been dying to have on a hot, humid day in June or get a hamburger with all the trimmings.
If you find yourself in Freeport, Illinois look up Union Dairy which is right next to the new library and Debate Square (home of the Lincoln-Douglas debates) on Illinois Route 75.
