How many times do you pass someone in the hallway at work and you know that today is just not there day? How many times do you need a helping hand, and there is no one around to offer that hand?
Today, was one of those days. I have been going a million miles an hour. The week began with an early morning conference call and just hasn't stopped. As I was running from this place and that place, I passed a friend in the driveway who just looked tired.
I did the quick “how are you“, not really stopping to take a breath…
when I heard “well you know” as I yelled back…
“I know how you are feeling“.
As I drove into work today, I gathered my thoughts for the day. I was running late and I just wasn't firing on all cylinders yet. During the day, I spoke with a friend and mentioned that my other friend looked tired.
I felt the Lord tap me on the shoulder and say, give her a call and just find out how she is.
As I pulled up my chair to the desk, I lifted the handset and dialed her number. I asked her how she was doing, and she said “what can I do for you“, and I said…
“No, really, I don't need anything, I just wanted to see how you were doing, since you seemed tired when I passed you yesterday.”
That one moment. That one little exchange led to an honest conversation.
Sometimes we are so blinded by our own tiredness, our own weariness or self-indulgence that we miss a wonderful opportunity to just be Jesus to someone. The Lord calls us to cast our burdens on Him, because He cares for us. Sometimes He answers through one of His children.
Let me encourage you to stop for a moment and just ask someone how they are.
How can you encourage someone this week?
