It is just after 6:30am and I am walking back towards my gate to head home from the DC Metro area where I have spent the last two days. My eyes are barely opening, and I could use a chiropractor to give my back and neck a good cracking. The wheels from my carry-on can be heard echoing through the concourse as I proceed.
The lights are barely on in the concourse. The hustle and bustle of busy travelers has not yet arrived and there is a since of quiet…a hush…a calm before the storm if you will. Voices are silent. Five Guys restaurant is awake and beginning to bustle with music and people who think that having a burger at 6:30am is somehow a good idea – I don't understand that logic.
As I walked this “hallowed pathway”, there was almost a sense of lonliness that could be felt. If I had my camera, I would have stopped for a picture to capture this seen. The sun is just now awakening from its slumber, and the airport is coming to life. TSA agents patrol the hallway , families disembark from their red-eye flights, and folks stop and check the monitors for one last gate check.
For this airport…it's just another day at the office.
