During this series, we have explored everything from portraits to the details, and today, I am introducing the imaginative moments we have as little children.
I was walking across the grassy courtyard where the children's ministry was taking place when I saw tons of little white parachutes in the air. As I grew closer, I came upon this little girl who had just launched her parachute into the air and was awaiting its arrival on the ground.
She appeared to be mesmerized by the fairy tale descent of her little pink occupant. I wish I knew what she was thinking.
I think what makes this photograph so enchanting is the people in the background going about their day as if paper parachutes were part of their everyday existence. If we could spin this little girl around, I would expect that her face would be filled with delight. Smiles brimming from ear ot ear, and a subtle squealing of excitement as she would throw it in the air and watch it drift to earth – pick it up and do it again – pushing the boundaries of her own imagination.
Imagine for a moment if you were the little guy attached to the parachute. He soars into the sky, and then drifts to earth to then be picked up by this little girl and then thrown right back to the blue sky.
I remember as a little kid, I would throw things into the air and watch them descend or create whole scenarios of towns and issues with little matchbox cars. When I took this photograph, I realized that somewhere in this picture there was a story just waiting to be birthed. Whether or not you see her face, you can feel the joy and excitement of playing with your new toys.
Tomorrow, we will explore the joy and excitement of water balloons. See you here tomorrow.
