After spending a few days in the Czech Republic, I thought we would jump back to Pskov, Russia and spend a few days hanging out with the kids.
Today's picture takes a look at the base of operations for the children's ministry.
We were fortunate enough to have a large shade tree adjacent to the courtyard area, and we set the blankets and Twister board down on the ground underneath the expansive tree.
The tree was massive and provided cover from the sun as well as a place for kids to climb. This particular shot was taken just after we had returned from lunch and the kids begin the afternoon's activities. On the right side of the picture, Jim and his interpreter Allah are speaking with a young woman as she gently rocks her baby in the stroller. During that conversation, Jim shared the Gospel with her and she expressed how no one had shared these things with her.
As you scan across the photograph to the left, Caleb has his shovel in hand and is waiting the other members of the team to head out and start placing newly created benches.
In the main portion of the picture, the kids gather around the team members and begin to talk and play. In the distance off to the left, the Jolly Jump is being awakened from its slumber.
As I composed this picture, I wanted to take in the entire scene of the activity as well as showcase the tree which formed the central focus of this picture. The detail in the tree and on its limbs provided for an interesting perspective. The tree, although it provides shade cover, is quite open in the center which allowed a great deal of light to filter through the scene. The aged look that I treated this photo with continues to fall into the theme of a “snapshot” of the moment.
As you can see, we were constantly buzzing about with activity, and that was part of the allure of the entire trip. Tomorrow, we will look at one excited little boy who was always full of excitement!
