Yesterday, we explored the view from one of Prague's historic city bridges. Today, we will venture across that bridge to the castle courtyard that overlooks all of Prague.
The road to the castle weaves its way along historic cobblestone streets outfitted with modern transportation tracks. As we ride our chariot to the top of the hill, we are treated to a view of all of Prague that are often captured on postcards.
Disembarking from the train, we venture onto the grounds that surround one of the castles. Beautiful gardens with fountains and tree-lined walkways invite us to come and rest our weary feet. In this enchanted park, it is not uncommon to encounter a member of the royal guard dressed in full regala accompanying a pretty lady.
We continue through the castle courtyard towards the main castle gates.
This walked opened into this grand street scene that forms today's picture.
As I placed the camera on the cobblestones, I was searching for the detail of the stones while showcasing the beautiful sun-soaked sky and the historical buildings. As the sun illuminated the cloud in its path, the street scene is devoid of any life. Moments after this picture was taken, a car came racing through this courtyard jolting life back into this otherwise lifeless scene.
When you think of castle gates, you may not think of this view. I decided to forego the typical castle gates picture and photograph the street scene behind me. For me, the best part of this photograph is the cobblestone street. Unlike in America where the streets are paved with asphalt, these castle streets are hand-crafted by master brick layers. As a tourist, you might often overlook the beauty of the cobblestone streets, but this is just one element that helps maintain the majesty of Prague.
I hope you are enjoying this series of my Top 25 photos. Tomorrow, we will head back to Pskov, Russia for a look at shadow people. Hope to see you back here tomorrow.
