Photo #1 – Bench Placement by Caleb and Illya

Yesterday, I highlighted the top 25 photos that would be showcased over the next 25 days from my summer missions trip. At the urging of my photography mentor, I began this series with this photo.

Canon 5D/2, 16mm, 1/1600 @F2.8, ISO 100

This is the story of this photo.

This picture features Caleb and Illya laying the foundation for a new bench to go in. The benches surround the courtyards among the apartment buildings. In this case, Caleb and Illya are placing this bench next to a sandbox where little children will spend their days building sandcastles and dreaming of new worlds to conquer.

Mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, grandfathers and grandmothers will grace this bench with their presence over the next several years. Every now and then the bench will get a new coat of paint.

This picture captures the essence of a servant's heart, and the beauty of a place to watch kids grow old. This bench will serve as a resting place for the weary, and hope for the lost.
