My #2 Snapshot of the Year comes from Salt Lake City, Utah. While on a business trip, I took the opportunity to explore a personal project that had been developing in my mind for some time. My personal project centered around “Cemeteries”. I know it's a bit different, but there has always been something incredibly peaceful about cemeteries. I was not sure what I was looking for or even what I expected to achieve from the photo trip, but the above gem surfaced just as I was getting ready to drive out of the cemetery.
The floodlights from the University of Utah's football stadium cast a light on to the cemetery headstones that mixed well with the setting sun. I put my camera in the grass, held it steady, and snapped five shots at about a 15-20 second exposure. This was the only shot out of the five that did not have any camera shake. This is one of my all-time favorite shots. You can find more shots from this set here as well as my impressions of the Cemetery project here and here.
