In the Stillness. . .

Cemeteries are an odd place to escape the world's busyness.  Driving through the gates of one of Salt Lake City's historic cemeteries, I found myself intruding among the dead.  The stillness that is found in a cemetery does not exist in other places.  It is hard to find quiet – still moments at work.  Our phones and computers invade our very thought processes every few seconds; but in a cemetery, it commands silence.  Perhaps it is reverence for those who are buried there.  Perhaps it is the thought that our lives have a finite beginning and end in the Creator's Hand.

My journey among the headstones gave me unexpected joy.  I came upon some deer who were grazing among the buried.  The sky was brillant as the sun retreated behind the mountains.  The lights of the University of Utah contrasted the darkness that often envelopes the dead.  Although my time in the cemetery was far too short, I found peace among those headstones.  Here is my visual story.
