Over the past week, we have looked at who the Shepherd is, how He calls us to rest and spend time with Him, and how He walks with us through the valley. Today, we explore the exit of the valley and how He is preparing a table for us.
Main Thought: As the Shepherd leads us out of the valley, He directs us to new pastures for food and refreshment. At the end of each day, the Shepherd guides us into the fold – counting us and calling us by name. He prepares food for us that will provide refreshment to our bodies and souls. He knows that the predators still exist outside the walls of the fold and He lays across the opening so that we can eat and rest.
As we go about our lives, He calls us to eat and drink with Him through the Lord's table. He says,
“This bread is my body, do this in remembrance of me.” – Matt. 26:26
“This is my blood poured out for you, do this in remembrance of me.” – Matt. 26:27
Every time we take communion, we remember the sacrifice our Shepherd made for us.
Application: Spend time with Him today in your favorite spot. Feel the love of the Shepherd as He prepares the table for you, so that you can rest and be refreshed.
Food For Thought: The next time you take communion, remember the sacrifice of your Shepherd. Your Shepherd was held to the cross by your sins, so that you wouldn't have to be on the cross.
