Why is thanks such a hard word for people to say? It seems these days that people crave, I mean, really crave that word. Employee engagement surveys are riddled with the idea that “appreciation” is not given to people. Honestly, how hard is it to say Thank You.
I'm beginning to think that some people think we owe them a “thank you”. However, thanks is earned and is not necessarily freely given just because. . . because we do a good job, then we deserve the accolades, but not just because we do.
I am someone who freely gives “thanks”, and when I give thanks I mean it. When people work hard or do a Fantastic job, they deserve the praise. Most people would work a little harder if they just heard “thanks“.
This week, spread a little praise around and tell someone they did a great job – my guess is they will work extra hard, because you took the time to say thanks.
