The Rope is Getting Shorter

What happens when we find ourselves clutching to the end of life's
rope?  When we seek to share what is truly in our hearts?  When our
prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, and smack us in the forehead?
Life seems to be dealing us quite a few blows.  At the end of some of
my days, I feel like I have gone 15 rounds – my body aches, my
eyes are blood shot, my lips are cracked & swollen, and I can
barely stand.  Of course I don't mean literally, but how do we respond
when this happens?

Am I looking heavenward, waiting to be swept up in the presence of my heavenly Father?  The truth is, I don't look heavenward a lot of times.
I find myself looking at my own footsteps, counting the paces until the
day ends – striving to make good when all I feel is stress and
heartache.  I'm like Peter who threw his legs over the side of
the boat, jumped on the water and started walking toward Jesus until he
realized that he was actually walking on water, lost his focus
& began to sink.  When we take our eyes off of Jesus we begin to
sink – we realize that, hey I can do this & our own ego gets in the
way & we begin to take a header into the water & belly-flopping into our own problems again.

God never expected us to tackle life on our own.  He provided friends & family, spouses & accountability partners, and He provided His church.  How can we encourage someone who seems to be "grasping to life's rope" – meet them where they are at – grab the rope & swing with them for awhile.  It may will hurt, and you may get a rope burn or two or three, but in the end you will all be better for it.

Life's journey is not always about the good things that happen, sometimes you have to weather the storm with each other, because there you will see the true character of your friends.  As you go through this week, pray for those who need extra care & then back it up by walking with them along their storm path.  It is in those moments that you see God a little more clearly.
