Today’s Scripture: Read 1 John 1:5-10
Our devotional time with God should consist of four parts:
Today, we will look at the final two components and then seek to apply them to our devotional time.
The third component is Thanksgiving: Thank God for faithful provision for your life. Thank Him for your family and your friends. Thank Him for being present in your life. Thank Him for calling you to His family. Thank Him for whatever is on your heart.
The thanksgiving component is a time to just spend thanking Him for the many blessings you have received over your life or the past year or month or week. The final component is Request: This component is what most people jump to in their prayer life, myself included far too often. We often think that we have to get our laundry list out and just start rattling it off to God, but the opposite is true. We can bring our laundry list of items to Him, but we must prepare our hearts to make those requests. Our hearts should be open and vulnerable before God. We should have praised His Holy Name first and confessed any sin that hinders us from being in God’s presence and then we should have thanked Him for His many blessings.
Application: Build on the first two components of your devotional time. Praise Him and Confess your sins to Him. Now add a time of Thanksgiving and then bring your Requests to Him. At the end of this time, tell me how it went.
