Today’s Scripture: Read 1 John 1:5-10
Our devotional time with God should consist of four parts:
Praise
Confession
Thanksgiving
Requests
Today, we will look at the first two components and then seek to apply them to our devotional time.
The first component of devotional time is Praise:
When we praise God, we praise who He is. He is our Father, our Savior. His Son paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we wouldn’t have to. Praise His Holy Name. Praise God for being a God who cares about each one of us, who hears our prayers and loves us. Praise Him for calling you to Him.
The second component of devotional time is Confession:
When we confess, we confess our sins to Him. He knows our sins already, but we need to acknowledge what we have done. We should confess our sins often, so that they do not entrap us and promote our further ensnarement. Confession is a healthy part of our prayer life. During this time of confession, ask God to convict of any unconfessed sin, so that you may confess this sin.
Application: Spend several minutes today in your devotional time reading this passage again. Then spend the rest of the time praising Him and confessing any sin that keeps you from God – tell me how it’s going.
