So. . .I have been on a reading and listening terror lately as I have been traveling 5 out of the last 6 weeks and I really covet that time for my own personal development. If you like to read or are looking for some resources for what's new and good or old and good, you can check out the sides of this blog and see my current reading and listening sections.
Along that line, I just finished “The Google Story” and loved it. I am an avid Google user, but I have always wondered about the behind the scenes story of the success of Google. Sergey Brennan and Larry Paige are life-long learners and that thirst for knowledge led them to the point of starting a search engine to support Stanford. While in their Ph.D programs, they got so deep into the search engine process that they had to temporarily forego their Ph.D programs.
Google transformed the process of searching and in the process has become the #1 place to work with its fun environments, executive perks for all employees, and the passion to be producing something better. Google News and Reader as well as Gmail were born out of the 20% of time that Google employees are allowed to work on their own projects.
If you are interested in how Google was born, from Stanford office to Mountain View Corporate HQ's this is the book for you. The engaging story telling is worth every word whether written or spoken.
